The Story of the Filibusters James Jeffrey Roche David Crockett 9781145498556 Books

I live in Central America and just returned from spending some time in Nicaragua, Grenada in particular, and have visited many of the locations where William Walker et al undertook their adventures (such as San Carlos, Rio San Juan, Ometepe, Trujillo, Roatan, etc....). All significant places in the history of the most notorious of the "filibusteros" -- William Walker.

The vernacular (late 1800's) used in this book may be a bit tedious at times, but if you can work through this, and overlook the romanticized favoritism shown to Mr. Walker, then it provides a lot of interesting details for an almost forgot era of American & Central American history.

I am happy to report that "General" Walker was not successful in destroying Granada -- it is today a beautiful place with much remaining colonial era architecture.
